The Climate Fiction Prize is a UK literary prize that will celebrate the most inspiring novels tackling the climate crisis. Showcasing powerful stories that depict the human response to climate change; how it impacts us and how society responds.
“For societies to fully grasp the climate change threat and to embrace its solutions, we need better stories. It’s not enough for audiences to know about climate change; they need to see an uncertain future and understand that change is urgent but possible. Many of us already see tackling climate as important; but we don’t always know how we should respond. Fiction can help us imagine what change can look like.”
We are thrilled that Grace Chan’s debut novel Every Version of You (Verve Books) has been recognised in the inaugural Climate Fiction Prize longlist.
‘The Booklist’ described Grace’s book as; ‘Strange and terrifying, Every Version of You warns of the devastating toll of climate change, AI and depression. And perhaps most importantly, it urges readers to consider what makes us human, like the tender love between partners or the unbreakable bond between mother and daughter. A must-read for fans of sf and dystopia’
The longlist was chosen by the five judges for this year’s Prize: Arifa Akbar, Chief Theatre Critic at The Guardian and former literary editor of The Independent was Chair of Judges and had this to say about the 2026 Longlist; ‘This year’s longlist is full of anger, passion and some top-class storytelling. Submissions as a whole treated the subject of the climate crisis with immense breadth of imagination and richness… This book prize, founded to explore the climate crisis, justifies its raison d’etre with the calibre of books submitted this year: some of the most accomplished writers of our time are choosing to tackle this subject, as reflected in our longlist. They sit alongside those at earlier stages of their career. It has been a privilege to read these books and the job of whittling it all down to a short list is going to be a tough one.’
The winner of the 2026 prize will be announced in May 2026, via the website; https://climatefictionprize.co.uk/
Congratulations, Grace!
