The Australian Political Book of the Year Award recognises the vital part political books play in better understanding Australian politics and public policy. Well researched, balanced and compelling political books that engage Australians are vital to the strength of our democracy.
We are thrilled that Clare Wright’s Naku Dharuk The Bark Petitions: How the People of Yirrkala Changed the Course of Australian Democracy (Text Publishing) has been recognised and Longlisted for this prestigious and vital award.
Naku Dharuk is the story of a founding document in Australian democracy and the trailblazers who made it. It is also a pulsating picture of the ancient and enduring culture of Australia’s first peoples. Wright’s book won the Northern Territory History Award and has recently been Shortlisted in the Prime Minister’s Literary Award for Australian History, and the Victorian Premier’s Literary Award for Non-Fiction.
The Australian Political Book of the Year Award winner will be determined by the judges as having provided the most compelling contribution to the understanding of Australian political events and debates. The winning author or authors will receive $15,000 in prize money and each shortlisted author will receive $1,000. The winner will be announced on Wednesday 5 November at a special event in Canberra.
Congratulations once again, Clare!
