Film rights for Jane Caro’s first novel for adults, The Mother (A&U), have been optioned by New Town Films in a deal negotiated by Jacinta di Mase of Jacinta di Mase management.

New Town Films is a boutique film and television production company operated by actors Bryan Brown and Rachel Ward. The company has produced feature films including Dirty Deeds, Beautiful Kate and Palm Beach, as well as the Twisted Tales television series.

A domestic thriller with a moral dilemma at its core, The Mother was published by Jane Palfreyman at Allen & Unwin in March 2022 and has sold more than 30,000 copies to date.

According to di Mase, Brown and Ward ‘are looking forward to developing the highly successful novel The Mother into a compelling film’.
