We are delighted to announce that talented artist and bookseller, Anne Barnetson is joining our creators list at Jacinta di Mase Management!

Anne is an artist specializing in illustration, and a long-time bookseller based in Boorloo / Perth, Western Australia. She works primarily in traditional media like watercolour and ink with an interest in portraiture and sequential art. Her practise encompasses a wide range of projects including courtroom sketches, props for film and television and images for print and web. Her comics about retail, Customer Service Wolf (Affirm Press 2019) show up every so often on a staffroom shelf.

Anne says of choosing JdM as her agency: “I’m delighted to join the ranks of JdM’s formidable and diverse writers and illustrators, with Danielle’s encouragement and advocacy giving my work a robust framework.

We are mutual fans with happily aligned values, meeting when Danielle gave me the opportunity to make the cover illustration for her novel The Monster of Her Age. I look forward to bringing my graphic memoir to fruition in partnership with Danielle.”

Agent Danielle Binks says Anne’s work is incredibly compelling and tender, especially her in-progress graphic memoir Careworn; that tells the story of the five months between her dad’s death and her mum’s, examining grief, care work, dementia and the things she did to cope. Danielle likens the work to Fun Home: A Family Tragicomic by Alison Bechdel, meets Kid Gloves: Nine Months of Careful Chaos by Lucy Knisley by way of Spiri Tsintziras’s Twelve Golden Gifts and she can’t wait to work on it with Anne, and then share with publishers.
